Raouf (Oof) and Kelly met in Anatomy class at the end of 11th grade at Cypress Bay High School in South Florida. One day Oof decided to take a chance and walk to the other end of the classroom to talk to a beautiful girl who was doing sudoku with her friend. They talked about the artist Owl City and Oof’s purple skate shoes and left class as friends.
That October, during senior year, Oof asked Kelly to Homecoming. At the end of a wonderful night she said yes to being his girlfriend.
Oof and Kelly made it through three years of long-distance dating in college while Kelly studied in NYC and Oof studied in Orlando. When Oof graduated, love compelled him to move up to the Big Apple to be with Kelly.
When Kelly graduated a year later, they decided to start their first home together in 2014.
On the eve of their Ten Year Anniversary, Oof had made plans for a day of adventure in NYC ending with a grand gesture of love. The day, while it didn’t go as planned, was the perfect day nonetheless, filled with city rooftop brunch, park sightseeing, dinner by the Brooklyn Bridge, ferrying across the East River and standing hand in hand at the edge of Manhattan.
The night came to a close with a cup of warm tea. Kelly was in her comfy clothes and smiling from ear to ear. Oof got down on one knee in the middle of their first home and asked her to marry him.
Exactly 12 years from that night at homecoming, Oof and Kelly will start the next chapter of their journey together.
